Your Cashmere Care Guide From The Experts

We’ve produced our signature, ultra-soft cashmere with the same Mongolian cashmere goats since our founding in 2002. Sourcing only long fibers for the softest possible sweaters, we’ve spent more than 20 years refining our craft and customizing every step of the process for the most luxurious and essential yarn width, weight, color (note: every hue and heather is developed specially for us), tension and finish. It’s one of the finest fibers in the world, and will last years when properly cared for. Just what does that entail? We asked the team that designs our sweaters how they take care of their own. Read on for tips from our favorite cashmere connoisseurs.

01. Washing

If you’ve ever read the care label on one of our cashmere sweaters, you’ve probably noticed it rarely (if ever) suggests machine washing. So what does that leave? Dry cleaning or hand washing. Dry cleaning will be your best route for stains (and arguably, the less time-consuming option). But hand washing is not as labor intensive as it sounds.

Start with a clean sink and fill it with cool or lukewarm water. You’ll only need to add a small amount of cashmere soap or delicate detergent. Turn your sweater inside out and submerge it in the water, letting it sit to soak for 10-15 minutes. Then, use your hands to gently knead for a few minutes to ensure the detergent permeates every stitch. When you’re ready to dry, remove and softly squeeze out any excess water. Never wring or twist too forcefully — it could misshape or damage the sweater.

02. Drying

Always air dry your sweater. Lay it flat on a towel and gently roll and unroll to absorb the water. Next, place your sweater on a fresh towel and let it dry in a well-ventilated room for about 24 hours. Be sure to avoid placing it by sources of extreme heat or cold — think radiators or A/C units.

03. Storing

Sweaters — especially cashmere — should never be hung. Fold and store them in a dark place, like a drawer or closet. (If you have an airtight container, even better.) Avoid areas that expose your cashmere to direct sunlight — UV rays fade and damage the yarn. Storing your sweaters with lavender or cedar is a natural way to ward off moths (and will keep your knitwear smelling delightful).

“One of my favorite hacks for stains is pretreating with basic dish soap or baking soda for oil — both options are gentle enough that the sweater comes out like new after washing.”

Extra Care Tips

All cashmere sweaters are prone to pilling, no matter the knitting technique or source of yarn. A cashmere comb is the easiest and gentlest way to remove pills. For wrinkles: a steamer is safe — just be sure to hold it a few inches from the sweater, rather than pressing the head directly onto the surface.
